Tatje Insurance Sponsors Punt, Pass & Kick Competition

Tatje Insurance and Financial Products is a proud sponsor of the St. John Sheriff’s Office second annual Punt, Pass and Kick Competition. The event was held as part of the department’s community outreach program. More than 100 boys and girls ages 6-13 registered for the free event. Led by several officers, the children had fun learning the fundamentals of football. Children also enjoyed snowballs, pizza and pickles during breaks.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your business:
I have been selling insurance for 38 years. I enjoy helping individuals with their insurance needs, because insurance is very complex, and I like educating on the different products that I offer. I especially
like helping people over 65 years of age with their Medicare supplements and advantage plans. People over the age of 65 tend to get very nervous about their health insurance, so I like putting their minds at ease. My passion for helping the mature clientele came about because of my parents, each of whom were 65 when I was new to the business. I was able to see first-hand how important it was to them.

Who are some role models you look up to, and why?
My role model was my mom. For most of her adult life, she owned her own business. She was a hard worker and always said that you must work hard in order to make it in life. I learned firsthand what it was like to run a successful business.
She encouraged me to sell insurance. She explained that I could be my own boss and I would be able to help people. My mom always said that I could accomplish anything as long as I put my mind to it and had a plan.

Why is it important to encourage and be a role model for other young women that want to get into business?
If they don’t see successful women, then they will not be able to see themselves in those roles.

What advice would you offer?
The younger generation needs to learn the skills necessary to be successful in business especially as an entrepreneur. Owning a business is very hard. You have to manage your employees, help your clients all while managing your own family. I am always juggling. We need to teach them essential business skills and the value of good work ethics, to strengthen the workforce.
